The Pinkis Family
Glorya’s parents, Samuel and Eva Pinkis, were both of Eastern European descent. Her father, Samuel Pinkis, was born in Romania and was brought over as a child. Her parents emigrated from Toronto to Detroit in the 1920s. Some of Glorya’s fondest recollections are of her father Sam—a warm and generous man who can rarely be found in these albums without a broad smile on his face. Glorya credits her father with instilling in her deep empathy and generosity, traits which she would embody throughout her life as a mother and a philanthropist.
